Infant Daycare Red Deer — Your Baby Will Have One Face, Not Many

You are not looking for “infant daycare Red Deer” because you want to leave your baby. You are looking because you have to return to work.

That guilt is real. You are not alone.

Most infant daycare centers in Red Deer have high turnover. Your baby meets a different caregiver every week. They cry at drop-off because they do not know who will hold them.

Brainy Bees does something different.

Every infant has one primary caregiver. The same person feeds your baby, changes your baby, naps your baby, and soothes your baby every day. Your baby learns that face. Trusts that face. Looks for that face at drop-off.

That is the difference between infant care and infant attachment.

The Problem with Most Infant Daycare in Red Deer

Most centers operate on a “floating caregiver” model. Whoever is available holds the baby. Your baby meets a new person every morning. They never know who to expect. They cry. They stop crying eventually, but not because they feel safe. Because they give up.

Staff turnover in Red Deer infant daycare averages 8 months. Your baby bonds with someone. That person leaves. Your baby starts over with a stranger.

Brainy Bees turnover averages 4 years. Our primary caregivers stay because we pay above industry average and give them one infant pod (maximum 4 babies per caregiver). They are not exhausted. They do not burn out.

Result: Your baby attaches. They smile when they see their caregiver. They reach out to be held. They settle quickly because the face is familiar.

What Primary Caregiving Looks Like at Brainy Bees

Before you enroll: You meet your baby’s primary caregiver. You discuss feeding schedules, sleep cues, diaper cream preferences, soothing techniques. You tell them what makes your baby laugh. You tell them what makes your baby cry.

Every morning: You hand your baby to the same person. Your baby recognizes them. They do not cry (or they cry less — babies still cry, and that is normal). You go to work without the knot in your stomach.

Every day: The same person feeds your baby at the same times you requested. The same person naps your baby using the same routine you use at home (white noise, patting, rocking, whatever works). The same person changes your baby and notices the rash before it gets bad.

Every evening: The same person tells you exactly how the day went. “She took 4 ounces at 10 AM. She napped from 11:15 to 12:45. She rolled over for the first time.” You do not get a generic “she had a good day.”

This is not possible in centers where caregivers rotate. Only a primary caregiving model gives you this consistency.

Freedom of Movement — No Swings, No Bouncers, No Containers

Most infant daycare centers use swings, bouncers, exersaucers, and high chairs to keep babies contained. Easier for staff. Worse for babies.

Brainy Bees follows Montessori principles for infants. That means:

What Regular Centers UseWhat Brainy Bees Uses
Swings and bouncers (baby cannot move)Floor bed (baby can roll, crawl, pull up)
Containers with plastic toys attachedLow shelves with real objects (wooden rings, fabric balls, grasping beads)
Baby stays where placedBaby moves freely to explore
Staff decides when baby eats, sleeps, playsBaby’s cues determine the rhythm
Tummy time is scheduled (10 minutes, twice per day)Tummy time happens naturally because baby is on the floor

Why freedom of movement matters for development:

  • Gross motor: Babies who move freely roll earlier, crawl earlier, and walk earlier. They develop core strength naturally, not through forced exercises.
  • Fine motor: Babies who reach for real objects (wood, fabric, metal) develop grasping skills faster than babies who bat at plastic toys.
  • Cognitive: Babies who explore independently learn cause and effect. “When I push this ring, it rolls away. When I reach for it, I can get it back.”
  • Confidence: Babies who move freely learn they can solve problems. They do not wait for an adult to rescue them.

Your baby will not sit in a swing for 2 hours at Brainy Bees. They will be on the floor, moving, reaching, exploring, learning.

The First Week — What to Expect When Your Baby Starts

Day 1 (Tuesday, 9:00 AM): You stay for 1 hour. You hold your baby while the primary caregiver observes. You show them how you feed, change, and soothe. You leave together. No separation.

Day 2 (Wednesday, 9:00 AM): You stay for 30 minutes. Then you step into the hallway for 15 minutes. Your baby stays with the caregiver. They might cry. The caregiver soothes using the techniques you showed them. You return. Baby is calm (or not — and that is fine). You take baby home.

Day 3 (Thursday, 9:00 AM): You drop off and leave for 1 hour. The caregiver calls you if baby cries for more than 10 minutes. You stay near the center. You pick up after 1 hour, successful or not. No pressure.

Day 4 (Friday, 9:00 AM): You drop off and leave for 2 hours. Same check-in rule. Same low pressure.

Day 5 (Monday, 8:00 AM): First full day. You drop off at 8 AM. You pick up at 4 PM. The caregiver calls you at 10 AM and 1 PM with updates. You feel anxious but not terrified.

Day 10: Your baby reaches for the caregiver at drop-off. You feel a little jealous. That is normal. That is also success.

We do not rush this process. Some babies take 2 weeks. Some take 4 weeks. We follow your baby’s lead.

Infant Daily Rhythm (Not a Schedule — Babies Do Not Follow Schedules)

TimeWhat Happens
6:30 – 8:00 AMDrop-off. Primary caregiver greets baby. Feeds if hungry. Changes diaper. Baby goes to floor bed or floor mat.
8:00 – 11:00 AMWake window (varies by age). Baby moves freely. Reaches for mobiles, grasps rings, practices rolling, practices sitting, practices crawling. Caregiver observes and offers materials at the right moment.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PMFirst nap (timing depends on baby’s cues — yawning, rubbing eyes, fussing). Caregiver uses your routine (rocking, patting, white noise). Baby sleeps on floor bed (no cribs — freedom to wake and move independently).
12:00 – 1:00 PMWake, feed, diaper. Then back to floor for movement.
1:00 – 3:00 PMSecond wake window. Outdoor time in stroller or on blanket (weather dependent). Sensory exploration (water play, fabric baskets, sound shakers).
3:00 – 4:00 PMSecond nap (if age appropriate). Younger infants may take a third nap. Caregiver follows baby’s cues.
4:00 – 6:00 PMFinal wake window. Feed, diaper, gentle play. Caregiver updates you on the day. Pickup by 6:00 PM.

No two babies have the same day. A 3-month-old naps 4 times. A 12-month-old naps once. We follow your baby, not a clock.

Infant Daycare Waitlist — What You Need to Know

Infant spots (0-18 months) in Red Deer are scarce. Most centers have 6-12 month waitlists.

Brainy Bees infant waitlist is currently 3 months.

How to get off the waitlist faster:

  1. Call us. Do not just fill out the online form. Speak to Soumya (owner).
  2. Come for a tour. Families who tour get priority when spots open.
  3. Be flexible on start date. If you can start mid-month instead of the 1st, you may get a spot sooner.

Questions Red Deer Parents Ask About Infant Daycare

Is my baby too young for daycare?

No. Babies thrive in consistent, loving group care starting at 3-4 months. The key is the primary caregiver model. If your baby has one consistent person, they will attach and feel safe. Brainy Bees uses primary caregiving.

What is your sick policy?

Baby cannot attend with fever (over 38.5°C), vomiting, diarrhea, or contagious illness (pink eye, hand-foot-mouth, chicken pox). 24 hours fever-free without medication before returning.

Do you give medication?

Yes, with a doctor’s note and signed medication administration form. Prescription and over-the-counter both accepted.

Do you provide formula and baby food?

You provide formula or breast milk (labeled with name and date). We provide solid food starting at 6 months (purees, soft fruits, vegetables, grains). We accommodate allergies with a doctor’s note.

How do you handle nap time?

Babies sleep on floor beds (low platforms with firm mattress, no bumpers, no blankets until 12 months). No cribs. Floor beds allow babies to wake and move independently. Caregiver follows your home routine (rocking, patting, white noise, pacifier, etc.).

What is your diaper changing policy?

Diapers checked every 2 hours minimum. Changed immediately when wet or soiled. Gloves used for every change. Changing table sanitized between every baby. You provide diapers and wipes.

Do you do tummy time?

Yes. Because babies are on the floor (not in containers), tummy time happens naturally. Caregiver also places babies on their tummies intentionally for short periods, following each baby’s tolerance.

How do you track feeding and diapering?

Paper log updated in real time. You receive a copy at pickup. The log shows: time of each feed, amount taken (bottle) or duration (breastfeeding), time of each diaper change, wet/soiled/both, nap times and duration.

What is your ratio?

Alberta requires 1:4 for infants. Brainy Bees maintains 1:4 at all times. Some centers go to 1:5 or 1:6 during breaks. We do not.

Do you accept the Alberta subsidy?

Yes. Full-time infant care costs you $326.25 per month after the flat-rate subsidy. You do not need to apply. We apply it automatically.
